Excellent staff, comfortable hotel, good stay
The hotel staff were absolutely lovely, providing solutions to any problems we had during our stay. The room was cold, so they gave us extra duvets and a heater for the room. The pillows were too big, so they immediately provided smaller ones. The location is excellent, just on the periphery of Central Amsterdam, and there are tram stops very close by. My only niggles were that the decor was slightly "busy" and the carpet reminded me of The Shining! (Although I appreciate that the design was based on the Amsterdam Coat of Arns). Also, the bathroom door did not lock and there was no plug for the bathroom washbasin. Breakfast was good, with a good choice of hot food along with pastries and bread. The hotel was a bit "tired" in places and probably in need of some refurbishment, but the comfort and the attentive staff made up for this. Recommended.
A Disappointing Experience
We were rather disappointed with our stay at the Manor. Admittedly we arrived a few hours early before the 3pm check-in. We’d flown in for a wedding that afternoon and it was completely understandable that the room wasn’t available. However, there was no effort to provide us with a space to change, and I had to ask specifically if they could text me if the room did become available. The room didnt become available before 3pm and there was no text to say when it was in fact ready. Overall we felt the service was lacking and certainly not attentive. Nobody asked if we’d enjoyed our stay when we checked-out for example. We had tried to get a drink at 1pm, we were simply told to go to a pub down the road because the bar doesn’t open until 4pm. We found it strange you couldn’t get a drink on a Sunday lunchtime in such a large hotel. In general the rooms felt they had rather cheap fixtures and fittings, and the carpets in places throughout the hotel felt dirty - see picture attached. So this was not a hotel we’d recommend when visiting Amsterdam and we wont be returning.
Would stay again
Great hotel for solo travellers. Tram 14 (under 5 mins walk from the hotel) will take you directly to Dam Square/Central Station and Tram 3 (from the same stop) will take you directly to the museum areas. Oosterpark is a lovely, relaxing spot a few minutes walk away. There is a bakery 3 mins walk if you turn right coming out of the hotel, serving great croissants and coffee which you can then take to the park. Only a couple of things to improve on - it would be great if a bit more of a quality check could be done on the rooms beforehand - my TV did not work for 3 out of my 4 day stay and one of the bath towels had a huge hole in it!
